Use Apple's Guided Access¶
Guided Access is a feature available on Apple mobile devices (such as iPads and iPhones), and this feature lets you lock the device to a single application. This may be a useful option if you choose to use an Apple device to run the VicTouch module. This way you can launch VicTouch on the device and prevent volunteers from exiting out and accessing other parts of the device. To do this, you would download and install the VicTouch iOS app, launch VicTouch using the app, and then turn on Guided Access.
Enable Guided Access¶
To get started, you need to enable the Guided Access feature on your Apple device. The Apple help system has an excellent article explaining how to turn this feature on and how to configure it. You can find that article here:
Apple Support - Use Guided Access with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Use the Set up Guided Access section of that article to enable this feature and get it configured the way you'd like.
Launch VicTouch with Guided Access¶
Next you need to install the VicTouch app on your iOS device. You can do this by opening the App Store on your iOS device and searching for VicTouch. Or you can click the icon below to go directly to the VicTouch App Store page:
Use the options in the App Store to install the VicTouch app on your device. Once the app has been installed, it will be added to the Home screen on the device.
Once you have Guided Access enabled and have installed the VicTouch app, you can launch VicTouch like this:
- Select the VicTouch app on the Home screen to open it.
- Enter your account number and the email address and password of an authorized System Operator in your Volgistics account. Then tap Log In.
- Start Guided Access using the steps in the Start a Guided Access session section of the Apple support article above. The Control which features are available section of that article also explains some other features you can restrict when starting Guided Access.
Now your Apple device will be locked to VicTouch so volunteers cannot close it. If you ever need to close down VicTouch on the device, you can turn off Guided Access using the steps in the End a Guided Access session portion of the Apple support article above.
