Add Phone Number Extensions¶

For organizations in the U.S. and Canada, the default formatting for phone number fields requires that the number entered in the field be a 7 or 10 digit number (a local phone number is 7 digits, and a local phone number plus area code is 10 digits). However you can easily change this default phone number field formatting so that anything is allowed in the field, including phone numbers that are followed by an extension number.

To do this:

1. Choose Setup from the menu.

2. Select 'Field Options.'

3. Select 'Core tab.'

4. Click on the kind of phone number for which you want to change the field formatting requirements (e.g. 'Work.'). This opens the Field Properties page.

5. Change the "Phone number format" to 'No formatting.'

6. Click the Save button.

Now you can enter anything (including phone numbers followed by an extension number) in this phone number field.
